Volkswagen Issues Recall of 143K Atlas SUVs Due to Air Bag Malfunction

Volkswagen has issued a recall of 143,000 Atlas SUVs due to an airbag malfunction. The recall affects Atlas SUVs from the 2018-2019 model years.

The issue with the airbags is related to the front passenger airbag. According to Volkswagen, the airbag may not deploy properly in the event of a crash. This is due to a software error in the airbag control module.

Volkswagen has stated that they are not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. However, they are urging owners of affected vehicles to bring their SUVs to a Volkswagen dealership for a free repair.

The repair will involve updating the software in the airbag control module. Volkswagen has stated that the repair should take less than an hour to complete.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail in mid-April. However, if you own an Atlas SUV from the 2018-2019 model years, you can check to see if your vehicle is affected by visiting the Volkswagen recall website.

This is not the first time that Volkswagen has had to issue a recall due to an airbag malfunction. In 2015, the company had to recall over 400,000 vehicles due to faulty airbags made by Takata.

Airbag malfunctions can be extremely dangerous, as they can prevent the airbag from deploying properly in the event of a crash. This can increase the risk of injury or death for the driver and passengers.

If you own an Atlas SUV from the 2018-2019 model years, it is important to check to see if your vehicle is affected by this recall. If it is, make sure to bring your SUV to a Volkswagen dealership for a free repair as soon as possible.
